A variety of strategies can be used to reach parents as they teach their children road safety skills.
To communicate with parents try:
the School Web site
e-mails,
newsletters,
holding a Traffic Safety Day to promote safe driving, safe walking and safe cycling to school.
BOT or PTA members, PEO's and others- distribute fliers and talk to drivers who pick up or drop off children.
Walkers and bicyclists are given safety information and incentives at a welcome table as they arrive at the school.
Use catchy phraseson the school community noticeboard eg "Give our kids a brake!" "Be nifty, travel at fifty." "Safe driving-dont leave home without it!" "Safe driving is no accident"
Use a speed trailer to monitor volume and speed of passing traffic.
Use local media-TV, radio, newspapers-to promote road safety awareness especially near your school.
Do a mail drop within the school zone, reminding the wider community that school is heading back-be aware!
Invite law enforcement such as NZ Police and/or council parking wardens to monitor the before and after school chaos.
